Journalism I & Photojournalism
Ms. Cook White Oak High School 2019-2020
Journalism I is an entry-level course designed to give students interested in newpaper and/or yearbook an overview of the different types of journalistic writing and knowledge of publications production. Students will learn to interview, write journalistically, take photographs, and produce a product that may be submitted for print in The Gauger or The Roughneck yearbook.
Newspaper and Yearbook are a continuation of these skills and students will be placed on the appropriate staff as determined by the adviser.

Supplies
- 3-Ring Binder (1” or larger)-notes, handouts, clipped stories, UIL practice. This will be graded.
- Notebook paper
- Pen/Pencils
- Composition book
- Access to a google drive
- Access to your blog
- Spiral notebook for interview notes (can be a reporter’s spiral notebook)
Grading Policy
40% Daily Grades-assigned each class period, this grade will be based on a varitey of activities including:
*Minor project grades
*Participation in classroom activities, discussion and critiques
*Responsible management of materials
60% Major Projects and Exams
Students may be responsible for interviews, photo assignments, newspaper assignments and yearbook spreads.
